When can I enrol at NYPS?
When you are pregnant or the primary caregiver of your child/children. Before the 1st January following your 19th birthday (section 3 Education Act 1989).
When can I go on maternity leave and when can I return?
You can go on maternity leave when it is no longer comfortable for you to be attending school. You can return once your baby has been immunised and is over 6 weeks old.
Once enrolled, do I have to come each school day?
Yes, NYPS works just like a school.
How long can I stay after I return to NYPS after having my baby?
Until the end of the year that you turned 20 years old.
How many students are in the class?
The role fluctuates but NYPS has capacity for up to 20 students.
What are the ages of the students that are able to attend NYPS?
Any age and up to the end of the year that you turned 20.
What subjects can I do?
Most subjects that you can do at any mainstream school.
Where will my child/ren be while I study?
We encourage you to enrol your child/ren at Auckland Point Kindergarten, so they are close by, but you can enrol them at any child care centre in Nelson.
School year and hours?
We follow secondary school term dates and are open from 9.00am - 3.10pm Monday - Friday.
What supports are available?
We have a YPS van that picks up and drops off you and your child from home. Food is provided for the babies/children as well as breakfast and lunch for students.
