A highly committed, motivated and cohesive team
Leading Nelson Tasman’s only girls’ school, in the heart of the community
About The Kura/School:
Nelson College for Girls/ Te Kura Tamawāhine o Whakatū is searching for a new Principal to continue our vision to educate, empower and nurture students so they can confidently succeed in their world. The all-girl environment offered gives our rangatahi/young people the absolute freedom to be who they truly are, without falling into traditional gender roles or stereotyped academic pathways.
With a 140 year history, and as the only girls’ secondary school in Nelson Tasman, we offer excellent educational opportunities to our rangatahi/young people in academic, cultural and sporting aspects of school life. We provide an inclusive environment in which Te Tiriti o Waitangi is embedded, and the diversity of our multi-cultural environment is respected and celebrated.
Our rangatahi/students have a strong social conscience. Rangatahi/student initiative and leadership is a strength where rangatahi/students lead their peers in activity weeks and events. The strong Enviro Group has gained a Silver Enviro School award and recognition is given to rangatahi/students for their successes in the arts, culture and sports.
Not only a secondary school, we also offer boarding, international student learning, Nelson College for Girls Preparatory School and the Young Parents’ School – a unique combination of learning opportunities.
A strength of our kura lies in the calibre of our staff. They are passionate about their curriculum subjects, place rangatahi/students at the centre of their own learning and inspire growth. We provide strong curriculum support in a nurturing, welcoming and supportive environment.
Integral to this support are our PRIDE values:
Positivity|Ngākau reka
Respect|Manaakitanga
Integrity|Ngākau pono
